The Nevada Department of Transportation has applied for a nearly $4 billion federal grant to support a high-speed rail project that would connect Las Vegas with Southern California. Spokespeople for NDOT and the private rail company Brightline confirmed that an application was submitted to the Federal Railroad Administration. According to NDOT, the $3.75 billion in funding sought would come from the agency'sĀ Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Grant Program. Brightline is seeking to build a new high-speed rail system running from the south Las Vegas valley and through the Interstate 15 corridor in California.
